Westlaw is available only to students and faculty of Campbell Law. Contact a law librarian for more information.
Westlaw offers access to a selection of state and federal court dockets to Campbell Law students. A Westlaw username and password is required to search dockets on Westlaw. Dockets on Westlaw are available for all U.S. district courts and for many state courts. For information about docket coverage, click on the interactive Coverage Map under Docket Resources. To find Westlaw Dockets, click on the Content types tab on the Westlaw homepage. Then click on the Dockets link under Specialty areas.
On the Dockets page, select your jurisdiction, then click on Advanced. From there you can search by party, docket number, case type, and key word. Westlaw also offers you the NOS code to help you refine your search. When filing in federal court, plaintiffs must check a box indicating Nature of Suit (NOS), such as 110 Insurance contract or 550 Prisoner civil rights petition.
Once you have pulled up the docket, select "update" to check for any recently added filings. This may not be available if the docket has been updated in the same day. Also, Westlaw may not allow you to view filings directly from the docket. Select the Filings tab at the top to see if the document you are looking for is in Westlaw's database. Westlaw also provides a tab for finding related opinions and dockets.
Westlaw Timeline shows you the motions, orders, and outcomes that were filed throughout the case. You can see the motion type, the party who filed it, the attorney or attorneys who drafted it, and the filing role of the party.
