The Law Library has a number of movies on the subject of DEIJ issues. Most are available online. Campbell Law students and faculty can request DVDs at the circulation desk. Most DVDs can be checked out for 24 hours. Some DVDs must be requested through Campbell University's Wiggins Library - contact Kim Hocking to do so.

Where do We Go From Here: A Dialogue on Race

The Central Park Five by Ken Burns

In 1989, five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem were arrested and later convicted of raping a white woman, Trisha Meili, in New York City's Central Park. Filmmaker Ryan Coogler makes his feature directorial debut with this drama centered on the tragic shooting of Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan), a vibrant 22-year-old Bay Area father who was senselessly gunned down by BART officers on New Year's Day in 2009, and whose murder sent shockwaves through the nation after being captured on camera by his fellow passengers.

Between Two Worlds
In the early 1880s, abetted by the Chinese Exclusion Act, a wave of anti-Chinese sentiment swept across America. This program examines the exclusion years through the stories of Chinese Americans and their families who were kept apart by both ancient custom and U.S. law. These immigrants were trapped between countries, at home neither in the U.S. nor in China. The law of the land, which separated these families, also provided relief as Chinese Americans turned to the courts for justice. (89 minutes)

What is an American?
Who should be allowed to enter the United States and call themselves an American has always been one of the nation’s most divisive issues—and it continues to be so during the 2008 presidential election. In this program, Simon Schama looks at the bitter conflict over immigration, tracing its roots to the founding of America. The early settlers were themselves immigrants but they saw America as fundamentally a white and Protestant nation. Schama examines the key events that challenged this view: the annexation of parts of Mexico in 1848, the immigration and subsequent expulsion of the Chinese in the late 19th century, and the massive emigration from Eastern Europe during the 1920s.
